Richard Verschoor back with Trident for FIA Formula 2 Championship 2024
Benschop, December 20, 2023 – Richard Verschoor will once again strive for a top position in the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2024. The recently turned 23-year-old TeamNL talent will compete for the Italian team Trident Motorsport. This marks Verschoor's return to the team with which he was active in the 2022 Formula 2 season. In that season, the Dutchman secured one victory, four podium finishes, and set the fastest lap three times. "I am very happy to be back with Trident Motorsport, grateful for this opportunity, and ready to take on the challenge," said Verschoor.
After winning titles in Formula 4 and achieving success in Formula 3, including his victory in the 2019 Macau Grand Prix, Richard Verschoor transitioned to the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2021. In his debut season, the now 23-year-old TeamNL talent immediately secured a victory, a feat he repeated in the following seasons. This year, the Dutchman was consistently among the top-scoring drivers in the field, finishing outside the points in only one of the thirteen rounds of the championship.
For the 2024 season, Verschoor returns to Trident Motorsport, the team he competed for in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship. In November, Verschoor raced for the Italian team in the Macau Grand Prix, and the Formula 2 test days with Trident went so well that the collaboration has been renewed. As demonstrated in previous seasons, Trident gains a driver in Verschoor who achieves results and consistently performs. The goal for 2024 is to be competitive in all races throughout the entire season.
Giacomo Ricci, team manager of Trident, is delighted with Verschoor's return. "We are very happy to welcome Verschoor again. In 2022, he made an excellent impression with us, and we are proud that he is returning now. I am confident that we have everything in our package to make it a competitive season. Verschoor is a fast and experienced driver who makes no mistakes and seizes opportunities. We will do our best to achieve our ambitious goals together."
Verschoor is also looking forward to the renewed collaboration. "I am very happy to be able to compete with Trident Motorsport in the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2024. After our successful partnership in 2022, I look forward to developing the new car that will be used in the championship this year with the team. I am grateful for this opportunity and ready to face the challenges that await us."
The FIA Formula 2 season in 2024 consists of 14 rounds, with two races per round, as always part of the Formula 1 supporting program. The title battle kicks off in Bahrain on the weekend of March 1 and 2. The upcoming season will be the first year featuring a new model Formula 2 car, adding to the challenge for both the driver and the team.
