Richard Verschoor unable to attack due lack of power
Dutch racing talent Richard Verschoor has not been able to follow up on his strong performance in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 on the Red Bull Ring. On the famous Spa Francorchamps circuit the Josef Kaufmann Racing driver finished in eighth place in the first race. In the second race Verschoor finished in tenth place. “On a wet track I am able to fight for the top places but when the track dries up I am unable to attack due to lack of power and I have to defend a lot. After the good results we had last weekend on the Red Bull Ring I was hoping we closed the gap to the top drivers, so this result is pretty disappointing. We have to work hard the upcoming weeks to improve the car and to be better prepared for the upcoming races.”
The races of the sixth meeting of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 where driven on friday and saturday as feature races of the Total 24 Hours of Spa. Richard Verschoor was aiming for the top positions on the famous Formula 1 Circuit. At the first practise session he finished second but he wasn’t able to repeat that during the second practise session.
The first qualifying session started great but in the end Verschoor finished fifth in his session and the tenth position on the starting grid for race two.
The second qualifying session also started great for Verschoor. A few minutes before the end of the session he was in second place but in the last few laps some of the competitors improved their times and Verschoor finished sixth in his group and eleventh overall, which was also his starting position for the first race of the weekend.
Verschoor’s first race started well. He managed to overtake three other competitors and was able to close the gap to the frontrunners. Short after that the Safety Car came on track which stayed on track until the finish flag and denied Verschoor from fighting for better positions. In the end he finished eight overall. Full of confidence Verschoor started the second race and again he overtook some competitors. He came under considerable pressure from the competitors behind him and was able to hold them back for a long time. Towards the end of the race he couldn’t hold
his position anymore and fell back the tenth position.
“I know I can do better that this. In the beginning of the races I am able to win places and I certainly have enough speed. But I can not seem to hold that speed during the whole race. And that’s pretty frustrating. The fight is not over yet. We have four more races to go and I am sure the team and me will be able to regain the speed and improve the car.”
